Alabama Divorce Records

Divorce Records under Alabama laws are public documents that can be acquired without restriction but can be obtained upon payment of a fee. A Divorce Certificate contains the following vital information: names, date of divorce, ages, residence and other additional information. In Alabama, the early divorce records prior to 1865 may be found in legislative records and are published in Senate & House Journals. From 1865 to 1918, divorce records were recorded in the County Chancery Court and after 1918 it was then recorded in the Circuit Court where the divorce was filed until 1949. From 1950 up to the present time, all divorce records can be obtained from the Alabama Center for Health Statistics. The cost to search divorce records with one certified copy of the certificate costs $15.00 and if additional copy is obtained at the same time additional fee of $6.00. However, in cases where the divorce record cannot be found, the person requesting will be provided with a “Certificate of Failure to Find." There are 3 options that an individual can obtain the Divorce Certificate. First option is by personally obtaining the certificate at any County Health Department in the State of Alabama. Second by mail wherein you need to fill in a Mail-in Application and this will take at least 7-10 business days. Lastly, the most convenient of all is to order electronically using any major credit card.
